Connection, or the lack thereof, has been thrown into sharp focus by the events of the past year. This shapes the ways we foster intimacy. Friendship, gender and spirituality are some key themes in the films discussed in this panel, which illustrate the complexities inherent to human connection. The panel brings together filmmakers Suzannah Mirghani (director of Al-Sit), Motheo Moeng (cinematographer on Matwetwe) and Sylvie Weber (director of The Prophetess). The panel is moderated by South African writer, journalist and Africa Is a Country Writing Fellow, Youlendree Appasamy. Presented in partnership with Africa Is a Country. The films discussed are part of FilmAfrica 2021 presented by BAM and African Film Festival, Inc.
