23rd National Traveling Series

Program

Details

The 2019 AFF National Traveling Series package consists of eight films from the 25th New York African Film Festival, which placed a special focus on intergenerational discourse, featuring works by women and younger generations of African and diaspora artists. Showing our interconnectedness and displaying diverse and exciting storytelling, this edition of the National Traveling Series spotlights stories of artists of varying mediums, some specific to African cultures, and nuanced narratives of everyday life that are also universal. Take a deeper look at the birth of a music genre that has evolved into one of the most popular international sensations, an eye-opening and personal observation of the taboo subject that is infertility, and tragic-comic story about the risks businesswomen who travel across West African borders undertake, that gives an authentic voice to African women not usually seen on screen.
