About the Director

John Barker

John Barker was born in Durban, South Africa. He studied graphic design at ML Sultan in Durban. After working as a graphic designer in Cape Town, he made a career change and began working in the film industry. He has directed various productions, such as the sketch comedy show, The Pure Monate Show (2003), the South African Music Awards, and South Africa’s first mockumentary, Blu Cheez (2002). His 2006 comedy, Bunny Chow: Know Thyself won a Golden Horn Award for Best Achievement in Directing in a Feature Film at the 2007 SAFTAs. Wonder Boy for President, his 2016 mockumentary, won the audience choice award at the Jozi Film Festival in 2016. Learn More
