Atbara was once known as the city of iron and steel and it was the railway that made it one of the most cosmopolitan and prosperous corners of Sudan. This film tells the tale of a city and its population and how the coming of the railway changed them both.

Part of the Cultural Healing project, based on a concept developed by British-Sudanese filmmaker Taghreed Elsanhouri, a creative peace-building project in Sudan that trained journalism students, civil society representatives and young people to make short documentary films which expressed their cultures and traditions.

Najwa Yassin

Najwa Yassin is a filmmaker from Sudan. Yassin's short documentary Train of Longing was a result of participating in the The Cultural Healing workshop, a concept developed by British-Sudanese filmmaker Taghreed Elsanhouri, a creative peace-building project in Sudan that trained journalism students, civil society representatives and young people to make short documentary films which expressed their cultures and traditions. A quote from the filmmaker: "The film deals with the story of the North Sudanese city of Atbara and the cultural, economic and social impact of train journeys.
