The Other Side of the Atlantic builds a bridge in the ocean that separates Brazil and Africa. The film tackles cultural exchanges, beliefs, prejudice and dreams built on both sides of the Atlantic through the life stories of students of African descent living in Brazil.

Márcio Câmara
Born in 1963, Câmara has a degree in cinema from SFSU, in California and has a masters degree in Cinema from UFF, in Niterói, Brazil. He has made several short and feature length films that have received national and international awards including, 162 Escadinha St. (2003) that received awards in Huesca, Spain and was chosen for Best Brazilian Documentary by the Brazilian Cinema Academy. His films Identities in Transit (2007), Torpedo (2009), Crazy About Rio (2011) and Joaquim Bralhador (2014) all showed in several festivals and showcases around the world. The Other Side of the Atlantic / Do Outro Lado do Atlântico (2016), which he co-directed, won the Best Documentary Award at The Cape Verdean American Film Festival. Learn More
Daniele Ellery
Born in 1972, anthropologist and actress Daniele Ellery co-directed The Other Side of the Atlantic and Identities in Transit. She has acted in the short films Quitéria (2016), Joaquim Bralhador (2014) and Torpedo (2009). She is the scriptwriter and co-director of and actress in Longing for Andreia; actress in We are Going to Beirute, by Marcus Moura, and The Esophagus of Mesopotamia, by Isaque Chueque. Learn More
