Orlando Mesquita Lima

Orlando Mesquita was born in 1962 in Nampula, Mozambique. From 1983-1991, he worked as an editor, producer and sound mixer at Kanem in Maputo, a company that offered courses in film studies. In these years he attended photography and film production classes, which he completed in 1991 at the San Antonio de los Baños School in Cuba. Upon his return to Mozambique, he worked as an editor for the company Ébano Multimedia. In addition, Mesquita co-founded IRIS Imaginações, a company dedicated to the development of communication materials, and Coopimagem, a graphics and film production joint venture company. Orlando Mesquita has worked in various areas of film production such as directing, editing sound, producing, musical composing, graphics, and animation. As an editor, he worked with a variety of national and foreign directors on about three hundred films. He has directed several of his own films, such as Rodas da Rua (Street Wheels – 1996) and A Bola (2001). His work includes features, educational programs, and many documentaries. He has been involved in projects which have documented just about every aspect of contemporary Mozambican life. In 1999, he won a Kuxa-Kanema best video Award for Histórias Comunitárias. In 2005 he made the conception, design and editing of a series of cartoons in Mozambique, Musculinho, a caricature of a Mozambican who every day, has to invent a way muddling through life, get something to eat.
