It’s New Year’s Eve in Atteridgeville, and Lefa is on the cusp of major change. Accepted into university to study botany, he’s about to leave the ghetto township that has been his home—if only his deadbeat father will come through with his school fees. The easy life is on the horizon, but he and his best friend, an albino would-be gangster, Paapi, need to first find a way to navigate the difficult life at home.

Kagiso Lediga

Kagiso Lediga is a celebrated South African stand-up comedian and a multiple award-winning actor, writer, director and producer of film and TV. He is the creator of the pioneering South African comedy sketch show The Pure Monate Show (PMS) and co-creator and show-runner of the two time International Emmy nominated satirical news show Late Nite News with Loyiso Gola (LNN). Lediga’s debut film as director, Catching Feelings, was released in 2018 to a global audience as a Netflix Original. His second feature, Matwetwe (Wizard), premiered the following year at the acclaimed International Film Festival Rotterdam and attained cult status upon its theatrical release in South Africa. Lediga was creator and show-runner for Netflix’s first original series from Africa, Queen Sono in 2020. Learn More
