Mariama is a poor woman whose son Bilaly is blind. Both are rejected by fellow villagers. One day Mariama saves a drowning man, Samba, who turns out to be an albino with healing powers. He offers to help restore Bilaly's eyesight. The price she has to pay is great but she resigns herself to an act of incest in order to save her son.

Mohamed Camara

Mohamed Camara was born in Conakry, Guinea in 1959. He studied with Peter Brooks and Gabriel Grand at the American Center’s Atelier Blanche Salant in Paris. Besides participating in several theatrical and television projects, he has worked on numerous films, notably Ousmane Sembène’s Camp de Thiaroye and Marco Ferreri’s La Casa Del Sorriso. In his own films, he has explored controversial topics such as incest (Denko), child suicide (Minka) and homosexuality (Dakan). Dakan has been called the first film on homosexuality by a Black African. Camara has won several international awards for his films, including the Grand Jury Award for Outstanding Foreign Narrative Feature at L.A. Outfest for Dakan. Learn More
