The documentary traces Ms. Ahmadu's journey back to Kono as a young girl for initiation into Bondo, an influential women's traditional solidarity or "secret society". The film delves into issues of cultural pride, women's traditional power, as well as western and local efforts to eradicate female genital cutting.

Sunju Ahmadu is a filmmaker who directed her first documentary film, Bondo, A Journey Into Kono Womanhood, as part of the requirement of her MA in Documentary Film at Brunel University in the U.K. Sunju’s interests include directing and producing video documentaries on the experiences of African immigrant groups in the United States particularly youth populations and issues of acculturation.
