Details
We're excited to be co-presenting a screening of the newly 4k restored 'Xala' on Friday, September 8 at 7:50pm, with an introduction by Producer and Colleague of Ousmane Sembène, Mamadou Niang. From September 8th to 20th, Film Forum presents an exciting retrospective on the groundbreaking films of Ousmane Sembène, known widely as "the father of African cinema."
About the Film
This satire deals with a self-satisfied businessman who is afflicted with the xala (pronounced "ha-la"): a curse that renders its victims impotent. While he chases after witch doctors and soothsayers in search of a cure, his impotence becomes a mirror of the impotence of young African nations over-dependent on white technology.
