Zimbabwe

Roger Hawkins was born and raised in Harare, Zimbabwe. In 1993, Hawkins resigned his job as a math teacher and took the brave step of hiring the largest theatre in Zimbabwe for the purpose of staging a musical he had written and directed. The show, The Singer, was a resounding success. Encouraged by this, he decided to make a career in the performing arts. As a filmmaker, his work includes The Legend of the Sky Kingdom (2003), The Silent Fall (2006) and The Lion of Judah (2009).
