Sudan

Mudzamil is a filmmaker from Sudan. Mudzamil's short documentary Abuna was a result of participating in the The Cultural Healing workshop, a concept developed by British-Sudanese filmmaker Taghreed Elsanhouri, a creative peace-building project in Sudan that trained journalism students, civil society representatives and young people to make short documentary films which expressed their cultures and traditions. A quote from the filmmaker: "Through Cultural Healing I was introduced to state of the art video equipment. Also, I gained insight into a new directing approach where through choice of character and locations you build a narrative that uses visual language to create an engaging story. It is the responsibility of the artist to know his society's problems and to have the critical ability to present insights to these problems. Above all the artist must be truthful."
