Mahmoud Ben Mahmoud was born in 1947 in Tunis, Tunisia, to a family of Turkish origin. He made his first feature film, Crossings, in 1982. His second feature film, released in 1992, Chichkhan, Diamond Dust, was selected for Directors’ Fortnight at the Cannes Film Festival. He also released a number of documentary films from 1992 and 2006. He has continued to make films that have marked his career’s success, such as Naps Grenadines, which was released in 2003. His 2018 feature film, Fatwa, won the first prize at the Carthage Film Festival.
