Sudan

Maha Abdalmoniem is a filmmaker from Sudan. Abdalaziem's short documentary Tayba was a result of participating in the The Cultural Healing workshop, a concept developed by British-Sudanese filmmaker Taghreed Elsanhouri, a creative peace-building project in Sudan that trained journalism students, civil society representatives and young people to make short documentary films which expressed their cultures and traditions. A quote from the filmmaker: "The Cultural Healing project offered us a unique and ingenious training opportunity. As a professional writer I especially appreciated learning how to tell a story through the visual medium of video. The skills I acquired have enabled me to transform my creative ideas into reality. The artist in Sudan is like a spot of light. Despite living through the pressures of a difficult and constrained reality the artist must nevertheless reach out with his ideas."
