Gabon

Author, director, critic and producer of films and music, Imunga Ivanga was born in 1967 in Libreville, Gabon. He holds a master’s degree in literature from the University of Libreville. After cinema studies in France at the Fémis, he specialized in script-writing for such directors as Bassek Ba Kobhio, Roland Duboze, and Idrissa Ouédraogo. Following several shorts and documentaries, in 2000 he made his first feature film Dôlè, which won the jury prize at Cannes Junior and the Golden Tanit in Carthage. His second feature L’Ombre de Liberty (2006) was well received and obtained many awards in several festivals. He directed Les Tirailleurs d’ailleurs in 2006. His other accomplishments include helping young Gabonese filmmakers and authors as a script-editor, in the development of their projects. In November 2009, he became head of the Gabonese National Center for Cinema (CNC). Since 2016, he has been Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Gabonese Institute of Image and Sound (IGIS). From 2009 to 2014, he was the General Delegate of the Festival Les Escales Documentaires de Libreville, short EDL.
