Launched in 1993, the NYAFF is one of the first film festivals in the United States to reflect on the myriad ways African and diaspora filmmakers have used the moving image to tell their own complex and nuanced stories. “The 31st New York Film Festival has so much to offer in terms of honoring the origins of homegrown beloved African and diaspora industries, as well as celebrating their references in modern masterpieces”, said NYAFF founder and AFF Executive Director Mahen Bonetti.

In three decades, this mission has expanded to include all corners of the African diaspora and debut presentations of numerous films and directors that have since gained critical acclaim and canonical fame.
