After arriving at a Cape Town police station to report a crime, Mzu finds an elderly man been overlooked while waiting at the back of the queue. The station is busy and the old man is confused with no one to assist him. Mzu then takes it upon himself to see that the old man is helped but quickly finds resistance from those ahead in line and stifling bureaucratic system. The Wait is an allegory of South Africa’s complex society, where a sense powerlessness and hope exist together at all times.

Imran Hamdulay
Imran Hamdulay is a writer & director based in Cape Town, South Africa. He is a Berlinale Talents alumni, Film Independent and Global Media Makers fellow (LA) and was the recipient of the Robert Bosch Stiftung award. Imran was featured on CNN Inside Africa as one of Africa’s directors to watch and attended Cannes Film Festival’s Marche Du Film as part of Talentueuses Caméras d’Afrique. His screenplays have won numerous awards and featured in various markets including EAVE (Luxembourg), IFFR Cinemart Lab (Netherlands), Gotham Film Week (NYC) and Durban Filmmart amongst others. He currently serves as a jury member for the South African Film & Television (SAFTAS) awards. He was most recently co-writer and producer of the crime thriller Sons of the Sea, which premiered at Cinequest USA. The film has played at numerous festivals around the world and went on to win Best Feature Film at the 43rd Durban International Film Festival.
