Ottis Ba was born in Dakar and moved to Paris at the age of 15. It was then that he started learning French and developed a passion for theater. He attended Acting International theater school and a few years later played in Ruy Blas at the Comédie Française. He then auditioned for A Midsummer Night's Dream by Shakespeare, directed by Krzysztof Warlikowski, a disciple of Peter Brook. Following Shakespearean theatrical conventions, he played the role of a woman, which was a sort of revolution for him. At that time, Ottis Ba began venturing into film, first as an actor and later as a director. He trained at La Fémis for a summer scene and directed a few low-budget short films, including one with French actress Aïssa Maïga. In 2011, Ottis Ba made his debuts as a director with Une histoire vraie, soon after this first short film he directed a new one Le rêve d'Amadou, which was selected at the short film corner in Cannes. In 2023, his first feature film Dent pour Dent, was selected at the FESPACO.
