A small village in Mozambique becomes the stage for this tale of love and black magic. Cesariano, a young soldier, promises his ailing father that he will return to his native village, Xaixai, and marry the daughter of his father’s best friend. Despite his sense of duty, his plans are altered when he meets the beautiful and mysterious Mississe in an encounter that changes his life.

António Forjaz

António Forjaz was born in 1970. He attended London’s New Woods School, the Algarve International School in Porches, Portugal, and Columbia College in Chicago, where he earned a BA in Fine Arts in 1995. Forjaz directed two live programs, Global Agenda and Sport Review for Mozambican television. He received a grant from Instituto Portuguese da Arte Cinematografica e Audiovisual, which facilitated the completion of his debut film, Mississe (1995). Learn More
